In the event of a major conflict with Taiwan, sanctions would certainly be one of the tools that the West would use. I think the United States in particular was hesitant to support Russia militarily, but did not hesitate to use economic pressure against them. And, in the case of China, sanctions are the strategy they prefer to use.
